Excursus

White Stoneware, Chia Seeds, Velvet Flocking Fibers, Celadon Glazes

8” x 18” x 6”

Excursus started as a way for me to explore the uses of different materials and my process has relied heavily on the intricacies of surface texture while playing in contrast to stark ceramic forms. In my general body of work, I tend to flock to absurd, surrealist pieces, welcoming interesting forms and kooky ideas to my practice. These projects have been no different. I created a series that bases it forms on the natural way clay moves while implementing surface texture that doesn’t seem as though it belongs.
